Introduction

Business France team and the French embassy in Bangkok are pleased to gather on the 20th of October numerous representatives of public and private entities in Thailand. This event aims to address the challenging topic of Green Mobility & Urban Rail.

Thailand plays a leading role in Asia, as a hub for transport and connectivity, by developing urban and rural networks as well as linking neighboring countries. Mobility sector, and especially rail and electric vehicle plays a prominent role on the shape and the pace of the social and economic development of the country. Thailand being among the countries the most affected by climate change impact, it is also crucial that the country address both challenges, of providing to its citizen an affordable and resilient mobility infrastructure as well as reducing the carbon emission related to the transport sector.

France hosting the second biggest rail network in Europe, has developed a proven expertise on the rail sector over time. This sector being heavily electrified, it only emits 1% of the CO2 emissions of the transport sector in France. To go further, France government recently announced that it would end the sale of any new thermal car by 2040. The automotive industry is one of the most advance sector in term of R&D : this sector is the one that files the most patents in France,  it invests more than 5.8 billion euros per year in R&D.

We believe that France can be a strong partner of Thailand while the country is developing its mobility sector in an unprecedented way. We hope this event will be an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between French and Thailand countries, and to show our commitment to support Thailand Economic development in a sustainable way.
