RTRDA Introduction:

Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (RTRDA) was established by law as ‘public organization’ under Ministry of Transport (MoT). It aims at developing rail technologies, manpower and other related missions.

RTRDA’s Missions:

  • Formulating the national ‘Rail Technology Development Strategy’ and submit for approval by the cabinet.

  • Research and Development of Rail Technology for supporting growth of rail transports and industries.

  • Research and Development for rail standards and testing system and the operation of tests and certifications for rail operating license. 

  • Being center of rail technology transfer and localization as well as cooperation with international partners in rail sector.

  • Developing manpower for rail sector and organizing trainings for knowledge and skills in rail transport and industries 

  • Building rail technology data platform covering research and innovations, organizations, experts and other important rail technologies. 

RTRDA’s Vision:

  • RTRDA becomes key rail technology R&D institute to integrate expertises and resources from all stakeholders in order to upgrade technological capabilities and to build rail industry & supply chain.


RTRDA’s Goals:

  • Formulating the national rail technology strategy that accepted by all stakeholders and be an instrument for developing the country’s rail industry to be a regional leader. 

  • Constructing ecosystem for growing Local Technology Content for rail sector, especially rail’s part. 

  • Forming system to develop rail manpower with internationally recognized quality, both at the level of experts and practitioners. 

  • Being center for transfer/localization of rail technology and expertise from abroad and within the country. 

  • Push for investment in research and development of rail technology up to 1.0% of the industry value (~2,000 million baht per year.
